Description of the route
Prologue: (5km) Short, but not flat at all...only climb and descent through the Kestrel Valley under trees. Beautiful single tracks that have been designed especially for mountain biking, loads of fun!
1st stage: (35km). After 1.5 km flat you hit the Lion's mountain climb for 500m. Then it's a long journey through rocky tracks, on the side of the mountain with a fantastic view of the south's lagoon. Enter the beautiful Ferney Valley and then the major difficulty of the day: a 2km progressive climb and quite technical at the end to enter the Riche en Eau plateau. The second half of the race from that point is long flat and down to the sea (18km). The finish will be on the public beach of La Cambuse.
2nd stage: (80km). Marathon Day! The start is on the beach, after 1km you enter an awesome piece of sand single track. Then, It stays on the coast near the sea for 3/4 of the race (55km), it's flat, fast and a lot of single tracks with beautiful views. You will need to cross 2 rivers with a compulsory portage section. The end will have a little more climbs on the sugar cane roads. Last 2km climb to the finish line in the chassé of Bel Ombre.
3rd stage: (60km): Climb, descent, climb, descent, climb.... It's a Russian mountain trip in the South's most protected forest. Tough and fun ! The route will be mostly in the Bel Ombre private land; very few Mauritians know these rivers, waterfalls and wild animals... The finish line will be at the famous Bel Ombre Castle near the golf course. Very Important: No practicing will be authorized before this stage... this land is highly protected!
We are having a one day event if you can on the Sunday the 29 November 2009 to join up with the last day of the HSBC presents Southern Tropical MTB Challenge. This is a 60km route, as mention in the route description. This one day race will start 10 minutes after the main participants which means you will go at 10:10am. Rs 100 per person, registration at Bel Ombre on Saturday between 2pm and 4pm and again on Sunday Morning at 8:30am. Their will be medals for the winners in the categories and tea/coffee and water at the finish line."
